Franchesca Ramsey, from New York, said there is 'no reason' for you to have over a thousand emails sat in your inbox and in can take just 10 minutes to mass delete them and file and filter ones you do get in the future

She started the thread with: 'I dunno who needs to hear this but, there's no reason for you to have one THOUSAND unread emails in your inbox, half of which are spam from 5 years ago.

'Take 10 mins a day to mass delete, unsubscribe, filter and respond as needed. consider it spring cleaning. you can do this.

She carried on with: 'Lemme add some practical inbox cleaning advice here cause CLEARLY y’all need my help. it’s ok. we can do this friends! *THREAD* '

'Let's start with bills. if you get an email every time you pay your cell bill ect. you can delete ALL those emails! free yourself. open one, copy the "from" address, do a search in your inbox for anything from that address and DELETE

She gave tips about bills, unsubscribing to spam emails and even deleting years old emails which are unread

She went on to have tips about bills saying: 'Next, do another search of the email address that's sending your bill receipts and set up a filter that sends them to a folder. name the folder whatever you want, like BILLS! the key is to set the filter to "skip inbox" and go straight to the folder instead.

Then explained about filters next: 'These are a GAME CHANGER. i love them so so much. the great thing about filters is they flag emails as they come into your inbox so at first glance you know what to respond to, delete or file.'

'Next: unsubscribe and/or mark as spam. lots of email lists hide the usub link in tiiiiiiny print at the bottom of their long ass email. but if you can't be bothered to scroll gmail has you covered!'

Many loved her advice but others started to share how many unread emails they actually had in their inboxes - much to her horror.

One shared a screen grab of her inbox icon, with over  160,00 unread emails in it - captioning it 'sorry, not sorry.'

Others who had 20,000 emails replied with 'One thousand', while another simply said 'I think you will faint then' while sharing a screen grab of his nearly 80,000 unread emails.
