Rock County mental health support group gets $12,000 donation from man whose brother died by suicideUses renewable gases. As we approach mental health awareness month... some mental health resources in smaller communities across southern wisconsin are struggling to keep the doors open. One rock county group is no different... but could soon get help from an unexpected place..... rock county reporter adam duxter has the story, and joins us from our bureau at the janesville gazette with who is stepping up to help... and why. Eric and susan... nami rock county has served people in the area for years... they're a one of a kind, peer led, support group... and while raising money can be difficult for a non profit like this one... others are stepping in to help... for a reason... they already hold close to their heart. There aren't many groups in rock county... that do the work of nami.... ((( , " "))) 04 32 26 we have support groups, all of our support groups are peer lead," the non profit offers an outlet to people struggling with mental illness... and support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide. ((( , " "))) 4 33 23 it just really helps on a peer level. For others to share their stories and learned from others what has worked or not worked for them. Executive director lindsay stevens says with their group being a non profit... their biggest challenge is finding the resources... to keep things going. ((( , " "))) 4 44 15 with the growth that we're seeing and the requests that we're getting to provide presentations, it has been a struggle word of the need spread to other leaders across janesville... like financial advisor matthew kreuger.... who called stevens to ask what the group needed. ((( , " "))) 14 49 10 we need a lot of help. We need advocacy, we're struggling financially to keep the doors open with how many people need help. For him... that phone call a way to finally reach out... more than a decade ago... he lost his own brother to suicide... ((( , " "))) 14 46 35 that hit me hard, and this business was a place i could easily bury myself into but now... he's giving back.... and honoring his brother.... this spring he's scheduled to do four seminars for work... discussing topics like leadership... and overcoming adversity. He's donating his pay for these seminars.. Back to nami.. He says while he struggled following his brother's death... he know has a message for anyone going through a similar time.
