History sheets will be opened against those involved, says DGP

In the wake of the alleged drug peddling at a rave party organised at Rushikonda beach on April 13, Director-General of Police (DGP) R.P. Thakur on Thursday said the City Police would have a designated phone number soon to receive complaints pertaining to drug menace.

“People can alert the police on the phone number or send messages through WhatsApp if they come across peddling of drugs, transportation of the contraband or any suspicious movement related to it. The phone number will work round the clock,” Mr. Thakur told the media here.

Describing Visakhapatnam as a peaceful city, the DGP said that the rave party case was a disturbing one.

Strict instructions

“Strict instructions have been issued to the City Police to take stringent action against drug peddlers. History sheets will be opened against the people involved in the illicit drug trade. The police will trace the sources of drugs,” Mr. Thakur said.

The DGP also warned the managements of educational institutions to keep their eyes and ears open.

“The college managements will be held responsible if students are found to be involved in drug cases,” he said.

Mr Thakur further said that the star hotels must keep a watch over such rave parties. “The police will recommend cancellation of licence if star hotels are found to be involved in organising parties with usage of drugs, apart from booking cases,” the DGP added.
