Six-year-old Bhukya Sai Satwik alias Siddhu, who was suspected to have been kidnapped from near his house at Nehru Nagar in Macherla in Guntur district, was found dead in a quarry on town outskirts on Thursday evening.
His parents — Venkateswara Naik and Saroja — staged a protest alleging that it was a murder and demanded the arrest of the culprits.
According to the police, Sai was missing from the government school adjacent to his house where he was playing with other children. Naik then lodged a complaint. On checking the CCTV footage at the Macherla railway station, the police initially thought that a boy being carried by a man on his shoulders was Sai but his parents said the boy was not their son.
While the investigation was under way, Sai’s body was found floating in the water-filled quarry.
Gurazala DSP K. Srihari visited the scene and assured agitated parents and relatives that the persons responsible for the boy’s death would be brought to book.
Sai’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination.
