Poll expenditure: South Goa LS nominees economical with truth

Margao: The district election office, South Goa, on Friday disclosed that BJP candidate for the South Goa parliamentary seat Narendra Sawaikar has shown his election expenditure as Rs 1.05 lakh, although the expenditure monitoring team claims that the expenses could run into Rs 36 lakh.

It is pertinent to note here that the candidates can submit details before the   returning officer even after the votes are counted.

The district election office also said the AAP has disclosed that it expended Rs 10.93 lakh for electioneering. However, the expenditure monitoring team pegs the expenditure to Rs 17 lakh.

Congress candidate Francisco Sardinha, on the other hand, showed that he expended Rs 6,42,000. But the  team  estimates that the Congress nominee spent  Rs 15 lakh for the campaign.

A polling official said the poll expense limit for the  Lok Sabha candidate is Rs  54,00,000,  clarifying that  the  candidates   can submit details on the money spent by the parties and by  the  candidates   until 25  days from the  day the votes are counted.
