Noida contractor thrashed over drain work

Noida: A contractor working with Noida Authority was allegedly thrashed by some Sarfabad residents over an altercation while he was getting a drain constructed in the village. Seven persons have been booked in the case.

Two of the accused have been identified as Gajendra and Omveer, both from Sarfabad, Sector 49. The other five had also beaten up contractor Giriraj Singh, the police said. The incident took place on Wednesday around 5pm when the accused allegedly tried to stop the construction that was being supervised by Singh.
“I was supervising the drain construction when a man from a neighbouring house asked us to stop the work because it was causing water logging in front of his house. When I refused, he started arguing and eventually called more people to assault me and the workers. They snatched the keys of my bike and thrashed me,” the contractor said in his complaint. He added that he managed to escape and went straight to the police station to file the complaint. Ajay Agarwal, SHO, Sector 49 police station, said: “We have booked the accused under sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 504 (intentional use of abusive language amounting to insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.” He said the accused are on the run and efforts are being made to arrest them.
