Every time Netflix announces the dozens of new titles hitting the streaming service in the next month, I scour the list for a mention of Dark only to find myself sorely disappointed again and again. This has been a game I've played with myself ever since the German-language drama's first season premiered in December 2017. But it seems as though finally -- FINALLY! -- my patience has been rewarded. On Friday, Netflix not only announced the premiere date for the hotly anticipated second season, but they also shared a thrilling first look at what's to come.

The time-traveling sci-fi thriller follows the interconnected lives of four families in a small German town, and the addicting -- albeit, a bit confusing -- first season ended with Jonas (Louis Hofmann) traveling through a wormhole and into the year 2052. As it stands now, we still have no idea why the future Jonas arrives in seems so apocalyptic or why exactly these families -- and the tragic events they continue to face -- are connected, but it doesn't seem like the answer will be a very chipper one.

Seeing that the teaser ends on the face of a stunned Jonas while someone declares, "The apocalypse must happen," I'd even go so far as to state that things might just get even darker on Dark this season.

Dark Season 2 premieres Friday, June 21 on Netflix.
