Hennessey’s 1200 HP Corvette ZR1 Is A Nuclear Powerplant On Wheels

Hennessey has already come up with a few tuned Corvettes that are absolutely mental. A fine example is the 1,000 HP one presented a few days ago, but its latest project is even more powerful.

How much power are we looking at? Its name is a dead giveaway: it’s the HPE1200. Which, in layman’s terms, means that the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 now produces 1,200 horsepower, as well as 1,066 pound-feet (1,445 Nm) of torque, or 455 hp more than the current Corvette ZR1.

Unleashing the insane output requires filling the tank with race fuel. On 93-octane gasoline, power drops to only 1,100 hp. To put this into perspective, the record-breaking Bugatti Veyron Super Sport has 1,183 hp and 1,100 lb-ft (1,491 Nm) of torque – and it was the first production car to hit a 268 mph (431 km/h) top speed.

Needless to say that Hennessey either replaced or modified a lot of components to come up with the ballistic output. The most important are a high-flow air induction system, upper and lower pulley upgrades, custom camshaft, upgraded valve springs, retainers, intake valves, exhaust valves, lifters and pushrods, long-tune stainless steel headers and a new engine management system. To cope with the massive power, the 8-speed automatic transmission has also been upgraded.

The package is offered with special exterior, interior and engine badging, as well as premium floor mats, and like all Hennessey products, comes with a 3-year / 36,000-mile warranty.
