Skipper Rohit Sharma compared the rivalry between his team Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings with that of Barcelona and Real Madrid – two of the most popular teams in Spanish top-flight football league which is also known as the La Liga.

Mumbai will take on Chennai at the Chepauk in their bid to take another step closer towards achieving their goal of making it into the play-offs. MS Dhoni’s CSK currently occupy the top spot and are within touching distance of progressing into the next round while MI take the third spot behind high-flying Delhi Capitals.

Ahead of the blockbuster clash, Rohit uploaded few pictures of the two teams during a training session and his post read: “#ElClassico of @IPL is here folks.”

The rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona is well documented and it is one of the most important fixtures in world football — known as El Clasico. Real and Barca are two most successful teams in the history of La Liga and the rivalry among the players and fans is second to none.

Similarly in the IPL, CSK and MI are two of the most successful teams, each having won three titles each so far. The two teams also house some of the best players in the worlds, similar to the two Spanish heavyweights.

It will be interesting to see which team comes out on top in this mouth-watering clash as past record suggests that MI hold the upper hand in this fixture. So far, 25 matches has been played between the two teams in the cash-rich league, with Mumbai winning 14 and Chennai coming out victorious in just 11.
