Shooting on Race Street in Lexington

Story at six...lexington has now seen ten homicides this year...after two people were shot and killed this morning in a car.

According to the fayette county coroner, they are 28-year-old heather grigsby and 44- year-old shannon goodwin.

Police say they were found around 4 a-m on race street inside a car that didn't have a license plate on it.

Abc 36's ryan schmelz spoke with neighbors in the area..

Who say...because of recent violence...they feel like prisoners in their own homes.

Police say that shooting happened here at the corner of race and goodlow, and broken glass from that shooting, is still on the street.

For people who live on race street..

They're waking up to the second and third fatal shooting in just over a month..

It's always a shame with somebody getting shot and killed.

Gregory hogan and his family have only lived here for three months..

And he's already fed up with the violence..

I fear for my family.

I don't want to be around here, and you know, it could have been my daughter, instead of somebody in their car.

We got to move.

Something got to be done, i can't deal with it.

This is the ninth and tenth homicide in lexington this year..

For comparison...the tenth homicide of 2018 happened slightly earlier in april.

The tenth homicide in 2017 didn't happen until late july...but the second half of that year...was more violent than 2018.

Troublesome numbers for community organizer anita franklin..

I talked to a couple of neighbors today.

They're afraid to even position their furniture in front of windows because there might be gun fire.

It's a tough month for franklin.

Her son antonio was killed in an april shooting...five years ago.

Until my son lost his life, i thought it wouldn't be me.

And now that it has been me, i'm getting the facts, i'm seeing more things then i ever saw before.

She thinks in order to curb the recent trend..

More people need to come forward when they see issues..

You have people that are afraid.

They're afraid.

They can't afford to move out of that neighborhood.

They have to live there so they don't want to make trouble or make waves.

Folks like hogan say good people live on his street and something has to be done so people can feel safe..

I just want to see change.

In a good way.

In a positive way.

You know what i'm saying, not no negativity.

Abc 36 news..

### investigators say right now in this most recent race street shooting... they have no suspects...and no witnesses.

There will be an interfaith event next month to address the rise in gun violence in lexington.

The program is called 'united in blood.'

It will take place monday, may 6th... at 7 p-m, at saint paul catholic church on west short street.
