CS to attend NGT meeting in Delhi today

Chief Secretary L.V. Subrahmanyam has left for New Delhi to attend a meeting with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on the steps being taken by the State for the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016. The NGT has been reviewing the implementation of the rules with all the States in the country.

A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Adarsh Kumar Goel has been reviewing the implementation with representatives of respective governments.

The NGT had meetings with the representatives of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka recently and is due to meet representatives of Andhra Pradesh at 2 p.m. on Friday.

The Telangana representatives are slotted to meet the NGT on April 29 (Monday).

The NGT had directed the Andhra Pradesh government to deposit ₹100 crore in view of the unregulated sand mining in the State.

While asking for a plan of action to implement the Solid Waste Management Rules, the NGT was also quizzing representatives about the implementation of environmental laws in their States.
