VMC to clean, repair water filtration plant

Water from the Ajwa reservoir is supplied to the city after being filtered in the plant
Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) will be shutting down its Nimeta water filtration plant for about 12 hours on Tuesday to clean it. The step was taken after it came to light that water being supplied from the plant was of substandard quality.
The civic body has been monitoring water quality from tanks in the city since about a week. It eventually came to light that there were issues in filtration of water from the Nimeta plant itself. Water from the Ajwa reservoir supplied to the city after being filtered in the plant.
Sources said that the water plant will be emptied on Tuesday and a thorough repairing and cleaning task will be taken up there. The problem of dirty water is particularly acute in the Tarsali and Bapod water tanks. Ruling BJP corporator Deepak Shrivastava raised the issue of Nalanda water supply tank too with the civic body.

VMC standing committee chairman Satish Patel too visited a couple of water tanks to check the quality of water there. It has come to light that the slab of the sump of the water supply tank at Nalanda was broken and needed to be repaired.
Sources said that the civic body was yet to work out the exact expenses that would be involved in the work on the Nimeta water filtration plant as well as the water supply tanks at different locations. With the problem of dirty water supply becoming acute, BJP MLAs including minister of state for urban housing Yogesh Patel had held a meeting with VMC officials recently.
