Kanpur: All foreign
liquor, country-made-liquor, beer bars, bhang, cannabis and model shops will remain closed for two days from April 27 till April 29 evening.
In compliance of the directives of the Election Commission, district magistrate Vijay Vishwas Pant has ordered closure of all liquor and narcotics shops 48 hours before the day of polling.
The DM warned licence holders of bars and owners of liquor shops of stern action if they flouted orders of the Election Commission.
Meanwhile, divisional commissioner Subhash Chanda Sharma speaking at the voters awareness candlelight programme, claimed that Kanpur division was ready for the fourth phase of voting. He has asked all returning officers to comply with the directives of the Election Commission and ensure polling in a peaceful manner.
He said voters may use vehicles for going to polling booths but they have to leave them 200 metre before booths. He has called upon the voters to cast their votes without any fear.
IG police Alok Kumar, speaking on the occasion, said Kanpur has to set a record of 70 percent polling while DM, Vijay Vishwas Pant, who is also the district election officer, suggested that if each voter brings at least 7 to 8 persons along with him for voting, it would help Kanpur touch 70 percent polling mark.
