Nagpur: The body of 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Abdul Gani Ismail Turk was handed over to his family on Friday.
Turk, 68, died at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Thursday. He was undergoing life imprisonment at the Nagpur central jail. He was transferred to Nagpur from Yerwada jail in November 2012.
Gani had suffered a paralytic attack towards the end of last year. On March 12, 1993, Gani and Shoeb Ghansar had driven a RDX-laden ambulance to Century Bazaar at Worli and had parked the vehicle near passport office.
A team of forensic expert at GMCH had performed the post-mortem in the presence of a magistrate. The process was also videographed. Sources from GMCH said the viscera and blood sample were preserved and sent to the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL) for chemical analysis.
Jail SP Rani Bhonsle said the belongings of Gani were handed over to his family members who had flown to Mumbai with the body. Dhantoli police registered a case of accidental death.
