The four-day building and construction exhibition — ‘BuildEx 2019’ organised by Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) and Association of Madurai Civil Engineers (AMCE) — was inaugurated here on on Friday by Revenue Minister R.B. Udhayakumar.

K.P. Murugan, president, MADITSSIA, said that the idea behind the expo was to increase awareness among the public of the things to be taken care while building houses and also to give an impetus to the real estate and construction business that is facing stagnation now.

“As we are organising this in association with AMCE, around 150 engineers are going to be there at the expo, with whom the public can interact. We are also organising seven seminars,” he said.

He said that a lot of people were often misled into unnecessarily investing more on construction materials.

“For instance, they may go for 16 mm iron rods when 12 mm rods are more than sufficient. They can get educated themselves on such things at the expo,” he added.

The organisers said that the public can also know about the regulations of the government and the schemes available.

B. Muralikumar, State president, Federation of All Civil Engineers Association of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, S. Anburajan, president, Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association, and A. Arivazhagan, president, AMCE, also took part in the inauguration.

The expo is open till Monday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
