In support, the bill got 284 votes, 157 against and 5 abstentions. Therefore, it passes to the Senate of the Republic for discussion and voting.
Articles 3, section V; 38, 39, 40 and 41 of this norm are repealed and new amends to article 4, section II specify that it will be the liability of the Executive (Lopez Obrador) through the Secretariat of Tourism (SECTUR), to endorse as well as organize tourism activity of Mexico countrywide and internationally.
Since its inception, the council was allocated a budget through the “Expenditure Budget” of the Federation each year. The arguments of Lopez Obrador and its party Morena with majority in Congress bases on a “perspective of austerity and budgetary efficiency”.
During the session, Congresswoman Martha Zamudio of Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) disagreed that the fading away of the agency would put tourism at danger, since promotion spending is an investment. However, Marta Dekker, of the Labor Party (PT), said that removal will not withdraw the endorsement program of tourism, as it will continue to occur through the SECTUR.
If the bill is accepted by the Senate and the decree is published, it will be identified that the council will keep its legal personality only for dissolution and liquidation. The CPTM must meet within thirty days to support the dissolution and appoint its liquidator.
