Twenty-four candidates are in the fray for the Gurgaon Lok Sabha seat this year after one candidate withdrew his name on Friday, which was the last day for withdrawal of nominations. There are now seven independent candidates as well as 17 candidates from different parties who will contest the Lok Sabha election for which voting will be held on May 12. Of the 34 candidates who filed the nomination, the candidature of seven was rejected for different reasons. Two candidates had taken back their names on April 24.

The state election commission said that 223 candidates will contest in the polls for the 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana. In 2014, 230 candidates were in the fray, this time the number has reduced by seven.

On the last day of withdrawing nominations, 10 candidates withdrew their candidature. The highest number of candidates in a constituency in Haryana this year is 29 in Sonepat, while the lowest is 16 in Karnal. In 2014, the maximum number of candidates was in Hisar (41) while the lowest was in Ambala and Rohtak, where 14 candidates each fought for a place in Lok Sabha.
