Ludhiana: A day after the maximum temperature crossed the 40-degree mark,
cloudy weather and wind brought down the maximum temperature in the city. The bad news for city residents is that the meteorological department predicts hotter days ahead for the next three days.
After the wind and clouds in the city’s sky on Wednesday evening, the same conditions continued on Thursday, so the weather in the city on Thursday was cool, as compared to the previous day. As per the Met department, the maximum temperature in Ludhiana on Thursday was recorded at 37.7 degrees (a degree above normal). On Wednesday, for the first time this April, the day temperature had crossed 40 degrees, to touch 40.2C. The minimum temperature in the city on Thursday was recorded at 22.1 degrees (three degrees above normal), but 1.1 degrees less than on Wednesday.
Even as residents had some respite from the hot weather on Thursday, the Met department indicated they might have to grapple with hot conditions in the next few days. “After the recent weather disturbance, the weather is likely to remain clear in the next three days. During this time, the day temperature is expected to rise, but night temperature might witness a slight fall,” said Chandigarh Met department director Surender Paul. “However, around April 29 and 30, there are chances of weather disturbance again, and there may be rain of light intensity as well on those days,” he added.
The department website predicts the maximum temperature to rise gradually to 41 degrees on April 30, and the minimum temperature to fall to 20 degrees by April 28, followed by a rise to 23 degrees by May 1. Meanwhile, as the temperatures witnessed a fall, residents were seen enjoying the weather change. “It was very hot during the day yesterday, but as the weather turned cloudy in the evening, it brought a cool breeze,” said Jagtar Singh, a trader from BRS Nagar.
