23,000 lt of desi liquor seized near Sutlej

Ludhiana: Ludhiana rural police on Thursday seized 23,000 litres of lahan (desi liquor) and 500 litres of illicit liquor from a ditch in the Sidhwan Bet area.
SSP (Ludhiana Rural) Varinder Singh Brar said Ludhiana rural police and excise inspector Inderpal Singh carried out a joint search operation at Kotumra village in the Sidhwan Bet area, following which ASI Karamjit Singh detected 23,000 litres lahan and 510 bottles of illicit liquor from a ditch near the Sutlej. Police officials said the ditch was covered with polythene sheet.
Sidhwan Bet police have registered a case under sections of the Excise Act.
In another incident, the anti-narcotics cell of Ludhiana rural police arrested a woman peddler with 53g of heroin.

Inspector Navdeep Singh, in-charge, anti-narcotics cell of Ludhiana rural police, said during patrolling, a police party stopped Manjit Kaur of Kulgehna from Canal Bridge Gorsian Makhan who was riding a two-wheeler and seized the contraband. He said a case was registered at Sidhwan Bet police station under Sections 21, 25, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act.
Police said that the accused will be thoroughly interrogated after getting her police remand from the court.
