Sunny Deol gets backing from father Dharmendra

Their on-screen pairing is known to set the box office on fire. Now, actor Dharmendra is gearing up for an off-screen ride with his son Sunny Deol after the 61-year-old actor followed in his father’s footsteps and joined BJP on Tuesday. “Sunny usually discusses everything with me so when he came to talk to me about his decision to join politics I didn’t offer any advice. Instead, I just asked him, ‘You’ll have to forget about Mumbai and make Gurdaspur your priority. Can you do that?’ He said, he would. That’s all I needed to hear to know if he was ready for the new role,” Dharmendra told TOI on Tuesday evening.
The 82-year-old actor had served as a member of Lok Sabha representing Bikaner from 2004 to 2009 for BJP. “I plan to visit Gurdaspur with Sunny and understand the issues people are facing,” Dharmendra said. “It’s not for money or power that I joined politics. The only aim was to serve people who gave me so much love when I was an actor. I want our citizens to feel safe, love their country and talk about unity. This is what I keep telling Sunny too. And if he’s a true patriot, no challenge will be difficult to overcome,” he added.
