NEW DELHI: Uber’s Asia Pacific (APAC) head Amit Jain is leaving the IPO-bound cab-hailing giant after a four-year stint. Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty, head of Uber’s rides business in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), will take over the additional responsibility of the APAC business.
Jain kick-started Uber’s ride business in India and spearheaded operations for around three years before being elevated to the position of regional general manager for the Asia Pacific region. Uber subsequently announced the appointment of Pradeep Parameswaran as the India and South Asia president. He will remain with the company until May 20, 2019.
“When he (Jain) joined in 2015, we were just getting started in India, and he led our rides business there from a category position of less than 10% to where we are today with over 50%,” Uber’s COO Barney Harford said in an e-mail to his team.
Uber filed for a public offering earlier this month and is set to raise around $10 billion at a valuation of $90-100 billion, according to industry estimates.
“I will be taking some time off with my family before I take the next step in my career. Together we have built a massively talented team, we have grown the India SA business ~50x, and we have accelerated our business in ANZ and made major strides across North Asia. We’ll take the next few weeks to talk to leaders on the ground and identify the best reporting structure moving forward,” Jain said in an email to employees.
Gore-Coty joined Uber in Paris back in 2012 as GM for the company’s first international city, and now leads its EMEA rides business, out of Amsterdam.
“I’m convinced there is a lot of value in fostering greater collaboration between EMEA and APAC,” he said in an e-mail to Uber’s employees.
