South Central Railway (SCR) has emerged the second best zone in Indian Railways for earning ₹4,059 crore in passengers transportation in 2018-19, a cool 8% more when compared to the previous financial year of 2017-18 at ₹3,749 crore.
SCR general manager Gajanan Mallya on Wednesday informed that 383 million passengers travelled last year, four million more than the previous year, and that could be achieved because of effective coordination among all departments. “Prompt action taken by officials concerned in assessing heavy rush periods like holidays, weekends, festivals and important occasions has helped in achieving this record,” he said.
During this period, 10 trains were introduced, including Humsafar trains: Lingampalli-Indore Humsafar, Nanded-Jammu Tawi Humsafar, Ajmer-Rameswaram Humsafar Express.
Another 15 pairs of trains were extended to different destinations to provide additional travelling benefits for the required passengers, frequency of three pairs of weekly trains was increased and made as daily trains while additional stoppage was provided for 21 pairs of trains at various stations.
More than 2,000 special trains and 91 Jansadharan specials to clear extra rush of passengers of unreserved segment were run. Regular trains were augmented temporarily with more than 10,000 coaches and 29 existing trains are permanently augmented with 64 coaches, said SCR chief PRO Ch. Rakesh.
