bollywood Updated: Apr 25, 2019 10:40 ISTDirector Ali Abbas Zafar has offered more details about Varun Dhawan’s cameo in the upcoming Salman Khan-starrer, Bharat. Reports of Varun’s special appearance first arrived online in 2018.
Ali said, according to Pinkvilla, “He is a great friend and actor. He is a very good boy and we really get along and he is also very fond of Salman and Katrina. It was just a big party on sets when he was there.”
Without revealing the exact nature of the scene Varun shot, Ali said, “It was very different. Also, when the film comes out and we do the final cut, we will know how I am using the scene with Varun but it was fun. It is a very interesting scene.” It was rumoured that Varun might be a part of a song sequence, and Pinkvilla speculates that Varun might be playing a young Dhirubhai Ambani in the film. Bharat will feature Salman in multiple avatars, and tells the story of the character in parallel with that of independent India.
A trailer was released earlier this week, and the first song - Slow Motion - is due out today. Bharat also stars Salman’s frequent collaborator Katrina Kaif, along with Sunil Grover, Nora Fatehi, Jackie Shroff and Disha Patani.
It marks the third collaboration between Salman and Ali, who previously worked together on the blockbuster films Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai. Varun and Salman shared screen space in Judwaa 2, a spin-off to the original film. Varun’s most recent release was the period ensemble drama Kalank, which has been labelled a box office disappointment by trade analysts, after struggling to recover its hefty budget.
Bharat is slated for a June 5 release, and marks Salman’s first release since the critical and commercial disappointment Race 3.
