Huawei P Smart Z with pop-up selfie camera reportedly in the works; specifications and design leaked

“The Huawei P Smart Z could be a mid-range smartphone, with dual camera setup on the back and an almost bezel-less display”

Vivo took a shot in the dark when it launched the Nex (review) smartphone with a pop-up camera back in 2017. The handset was the Chinese phonemaker’s answer to the iPhone X as it had the truly bezel-less display with no notch whatsoever. The front camera was placed on a module that retracts from the top edge when you have to take selfies. Since then, the design has gain traction and OEMs such has OPPO, Samsung, and Xiaomi following in its footsteps. Now, it seems Huawei is working on a smartphone with a pop-up selfie camera.

The alleged renders of the handset, published by Mobile Kopen, show the purported Huawei P Smart Z smartphone will have a design heavily inspired by the Vivo Nex. There’s an edge-to-edge screen with relatively minimal bezels and a chin, a pop-up selfie camera, and a dual rear camera setup at the top-right corner, with ‘AI Camera’ etched just below the LED flash. Notably, the Huawei handset will have a regular fingerprint scanner on the rear panel, the renders show.

As for the specifications, the Huawei P Smart Z is reported to ship with a 6.59-inch display and a 16-megapixel selfie shooter that sits on top. The dual rear cameras are said to employ a combination of 16-megapixel primary + 2-megapixel depth sensors. Other vital features include Kirin 710 SoC, 4GB of RAM, 64GB user expandable storage, Android 9 Pie with EMUI 9 on top, 4,000mAh battery, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

While there’s no word on the price and availability at the moment (although rumours suggest it could cost €210/ Rs 16,440), we can tell you the Huawei P Smart Z will most likely come in Midnight Black, Emerald Green, and Sapphire Blue colours.
