Tension prevailed at the Pulianthope police station as the wife of a murder accused attempted self-immolation after he was picked up for interrogation in connection with extortion allegations against him.

Ezhilarasan (25) of Narasimha Nagar at Pulianthope, who is an accused in the murder of a senior citizen Radhakrishnan last year, allegedly threatened a shop owner demanding money recently. In this connection, he was taken to the police station for an inquiry on Wednesday. However, within minutes, a group of 30 people, including his kin and lawyers, gathered in front of the station demanding his release.
