Clean deal: Don’t elect those who deface city, say residents

Ludhiana: Defacement with posters of Lok Sabha candidates on roadsides, private buildings and even on overhead signboards are driving residents up the wall. They say such candidates should not be voted.
Some of the residents have removed posters from their walls and are raising voice against the practice on social media groups too. They say instead of indulging in visual pollution, candidates must share their vision and ideas with the voters.
Businessman Shobhan Soi says, “There are posters on the entire Pakhowal Road and private walls. Officials wait for complaints from the public. They should act on their own and take strict action against the candidates.”
Another resident from Pakhowal Road Gurmeet Singh rues that this happens every election season. “Even as the officials remove posters from walls and serve notices on offenders, no action is taken against the parties or candidates, which encourages such violations. We will not elect those who deface city,” he adds.
A resident of Model Town, Gurpal Grewal, says while trying to grab the attention, candidates forget that they are actually annoying the voter. “Those defacing city walls will not get our votes,” he adds.

Requesting anonymity, a municipal corporation official says maximum complaints are being received on the mobile application CVigil. “We are forwarding the complaints to the control room for action and serving notices on the violators. In the coming days, more posters and hoardings will be installed. We will have to put in extra efforts to clear them,” he adds.
Deputy commissioner-cum-district election officer Pardeep Agrawal says, “No illegal hoarding or poster will be allowed by any candidate or party. People should use C-Vigil app and complain. We will issue notices.”
