NEW DELHI: A
teenager and his
accomplice have been
nabbed for allegedly
stealing Rs 51 lakh from a
businessman’s Audi after
puncturing its tyres. The police have also managed to recover Rs 50 lakh from the members of a
thak-thak gang.
The accused have revealed that two other boys of their locality had mastered the modus operandi of a thak-thak gang. They used to roam around to keep an eye out for people carrying briefcases and bags and then target them at isolated spots.
DCP (south) Vijay Kumar said the police had received a complaint from the Greater Kailash businessman who said he was heading to his workplace in west Delhi when a group of youths on a scooter pointed towards a tyre puncture in his Audi, forcing him to stop. While his driver was repairing the tyre, someone opened the rear door and fled with his cash bag.
“A team from the special staff led by ACP Uday Bir was recently informed about the accused being spotted near Madangir. A raid was conducted at their hideout and two members of the gang were caught,” said Kumar.
One of them, identified as P Vikas, said he, along with his associates Sunil, Rohit, Deepak and a juvenile, used to drive around in south Delhi in two groups on motorcycles and scooters. They mostly chose luxury cars during peak hours.
They would puncture a tyre with an ice-pick at a traffic signal and then drive along with the car to point out the puncture. While the driver and the owner would be busy checking, the other group would flee with the valuables.
