Ludhiana: For the first time in April, the day temperature has crossed the 40-degree Celsius mark. The bad news for residents on the weather front is that the Met department predicts hotter days ahead for many days.
According to the department, the maximum temperature in the city on Wednesday was recorded at 40.2 degrees Celsius (three degrees above normal) and 0.3 degrees more than on Tuesday, while the minimum temperature too was on the higher side at 23.2 degrees (four degrees above normal), and the same as on Tuesday.
A Met department official in Chandigarh confirmed that the maximum temperature on Wednesday was the highest recorded this summer so far. He added that the weather was likely to remain dry, and the day temperature was expected to remain above 40 degrees in the week ahead.
The department website predicts the day temperature to rise gradually up to 42 degrees on Saturday, while the night temperature may fall to 22 degrees by Sunday. Meanwhile, the sky suddenly turned overcast around Wednesday evening, and a cool breeze was blowing, bringing some respite to residents from the
hot weather.
