PUNE: A 17-year-old schoolboy was detained on Wednesday for repeatedly raping a
minor girl from February this year.
The 16-year-old schoolgirl became pregnant and the circumstances compelled her mother to lodge an FIR against the boy. The Kondhwa police said the girl and the boy studied in different schools in Standard IX and X, respectively, but their homes were nearby.
The boy started visiting the girl’s home in the absence of her parents on the pretext of returning books. He raped her during one such visit and told her not to disclose the incident to anyone.
The boy then started meeting the girl frequently and they became close friends. He then started visiting her residence more frequently and lured her to have physical relations with him.
Their intimacy, according to the police, went unnoticed for around two months. It came to light after the girl started complained of stomach ache. When her mother took her to a doctor, a medical examination revealed that she was pregnant by over two months.
Sub-inspector Vaishali Sajjan of the Kondhwa police said, “When the girl’s mother took her into confidence, she revealed the name of her boyfriend and gave details of the acts committed by him, leading to her pregnancy.”
“After receiving the complaint from the girl’s mother, we have detained the boy under Section 376 (rape) of the
Indian Penal Code and sections 4 and 6 (punishment for penetrative/aggravated sexual assault) of the Protection to Children from Sexual Offences Act, and sent him to a correction home after seeking an order from the court,” she said.
Sajjan added, “We have admitted the schoolgirl to a government hospital for medical examination. The report is still awaited. A chargesheet against the boy will be filed on the completion of investigation.”
