Huts handed over to beneficiaries

Huts constructed for 42 families affected in Cyclone Gaja at Semparuthi hamlet in Irandampulikadu village panchayat near Peravurani, were handed over to the beneficiaries.

The cost of construction of the huts, ₹10 lakh, was borne jointly by the Abdul Kalam Latchiya Indiya Iyakkam, Ramnad Royals Rotary Club, Senthamizh Makkal Sports and Cultural Connect, Nagercoil South Rotary Club.

Handing over the possession of the huts, V. Ponraj, scientific advisor to former President Abdul Kalam, said that efforts would be initiated to help them avail patta for the land on which they reside by pointing out that the assistance extended to them now was only temporary. Solar powered lamps, worth ₹20,000, sponsored by Dr.Viji, was also distributed to the beneficiary families on the occasion.
