Often election candidates use different tactics to woo voters and Shiv Sena’s Mumbai North-West candidate Gajanan Kirtikar has also taken a unique effort during poll campaigning for Lok Sabha Election 2019. 75-year-old Kirtikar is a sitting Shiv Sena MP, who is contesting against Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam, and he campaigns on a chariot to seek votes of people in his constituency. Kirtikar travels six hours daily on a truck that is modified to look like a chariot.
He campaigns on his chariot everyday in his constituency which includes Dindoshi, Andheri West, Andheri East, Goregaon, Versova and Jogeshwari East. There are 17,74,428 voters in the area. Occasionally, he also steps down from the vehicle to talk to voters.
Kirtikar also speaks about his achievements over the years. “I have used the entire MP fund for my constituency. I have 79 per cent attendance in Parliament between 2014 and 2019. I have raised 1,018 questions during sessions. I have submitted eight private member bills and participated in 77 debates,” he says.
Kirtikar is also chairman of Maharashtra State Kabbadi Association. A graduate in economics, he was also a member of the youth and sports committee, which gives him an edge when it comes to his youth connections.
