NEW DELHI: A man who repeatedly raped his minor
daughter leaving her pregnant, has been awarded rigorous imprisonment for life by Delhi high
court.
A bench of justices Siddharth Mridul and Manoj K Ohri found Om Prakash guilty of raping his daughter for four years and noted that “the testimony of the minor prosecutrix, which inspires confidence, has remained unshattered despite sustained cross examination”.
The court also went by the corroborating evidence in the form of the medical/DNA evidence on record, upholding the life term awarded to the
father by a trial court earlier.
The bench refused to show any leniency, pointing out that “nothing can be more heinous than a crime committed on the person of a child by her father, the one who is duty-bound to provide her unflinching protection from all harm” and added that it is “necessary for the courts to have a sensitive approach when dealing with cases of child rape. The effect of such a crime on the mind of the child is likely to be lifelong”.
