Injured firefighters return home from hospital after fire in Macon

And i'm tucker sargent.

Our top story tonight at five: five firefighters are now out of the hospital after being injured in a large structure fire in downtown macon last night.

The fire happened on high street... damaging at least three homes.

41nbc's amber lake was on scene overnight.

And she joins us in studio... with the latest on this fire investigation.

Investigators were at the scene all day assessing the damage from the fire.

Fire chief marvin riggins says there are no residential injuries.

But five firefighters were taken to the hospital.

Tonight they are home with no serious problems. the macon bibb fire department received a call last night around 9 pm about 2 homes engulfed in flames on high street.

Then a third home caught on fire.

Chief riggins, said there is heavy fire damage to the homes.

Caroline laborde has lived in the downtown neighborhood for over a decade.

And she said she's just glad no one was seriously injured.

"this place has meant a lot t everyone, and it's just a quiet and sweet little neighborhood and it's just hard to see the history hopefully not disappearing but certainly injured" chief riggins said that 3 of the 5 injured firefighters should be cleared to return to work by the departments
