The new Audi A6 may not be as eye-catching as some of its rivals in the executive segment, but not everyone wants a car that stands out on the road.

As expected from Audi, the new A6 doesn’t break the mold but it does make an effort of looking slightly more dynamic than its predecessor with sharper lines along the sides and the big front grille accompanying successfully the impressive LED lighting units.

There’s plenty of tech in the cabin as well, with the dashboard dominated by the twin-display infotainment system, expensive materials and a configurable digital instrument cluster. Audi’s sharper design language has found its way on to the dashboard too, giving it more character than before.

The new generation of the A6 is also bigger than its predecessor, measuring 4,939 mm (16.2 ft) in length, 1,886 mm (6.2 ft) in width, while standing 1,457 mm (4.8 ft) tall, making it slightly longer and wider than its challengers from BMW and Mercedes.

As ever, there’s a pretty wide selection of engines to choose from, with Carwow’s 40 TDI test car featuring a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with 201hp (204PS) and 295lb-ft (400Nm) of torque, paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The diesel engine is not only punchy enough, with 0-62mph (100km/h) coming in 8.1 seconds, but also pretty quiet and frugal as well. Does it make the new Audi A6 a worthy rival to the likes of the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes E-Class? Let’s find out.
