CHANDIGARH: As many as 10 candidates from four main political parties in
Haryana —
Congress,
BJP,
INLD and JJP-AAP combine — are
facing ongoing criminal cases.
The cases against them range from serious charges of sexual harassment/molestation, dacoity and attempt to murder to petty offences of blockage of road and carrying out agitation in contravention of government orders. Nirmal Singh, the Congress nominee from Kurukshetra, is facing charges of dacoity and INLD’s Ambala candidate Rampal Valmiki is facing a molestation/ sexual harassment case. Similarly, former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda is facing a large number of cases registered against him by the premier central agencies like CBI and directorate of enforcement (ED).
Hooda is facing four CBI cases, one FIR registered at Kherki Daula police station in Gurgaon and one ED case for misusing his official position as the chief minister of Haryana. The former CM has even been charge-sheeted by the CBI in two cases related to Manesar land scam and AJL plot allotment case.
Balwan Fauji, the INLD candidate from Bhiwani-Mahendergarh, has been convicted in one case and sentenced to one-year imprisonment. He was, however, released on probation by the trial court. He is also facing another case of attempt to murder.
Jaihind facing five cases related to political agitationsINLD’s Hisar candidate Suresh Koth is facing four FIRs in Barwala and Narnaud police stations for blockage of roads under IPC and violation of highway laws. One case includes charge of being a proclaimed offender (PO).
Pradeep Deswal, the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) candidate from Rohtak, is facing three cases related to rioting, unlawful assembly, rioting with weapon, and wrongful restraint. These cases were registered against Deswal between February 2016 and October 2018 and in one case, charges have been framed by the court.
Congress candidate from Faridabad Avtar Singh Bhadana is facing one case related to disobedience of order duly promulgated by public servant and violation of model code of conduct.
The FIR was registered against him back in 2012 and his appeal against the said case is pending before the Allahabad high court.
Haryana Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) president and AAP-JJP candidate from Faridabad Naveen Jaihind is also facing five cases related to political agitations.
One case was registered against him in Panipat, two in Rohtak and two cases in New Delhi. Jaihind had to attach an annexure with his affidavit to give complete details of all the cases which were filed against him.
Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Tanwar, who is contesting from Sirsa (Reserved) seat, is also facing one criminal case registered against him in 2007 in Deveria, Uttar Pradesh, for disobedience of order duly promulgated by public servant and related charges.
JJP candidate from Sonipat Digvijay Chautala has claimed in his affidavit that one FIR number-5, registered back in January 19, 2015 at Hathur police station in Ludhiana district of Punjab is pending against him for hate speech.
