COLVA/POINGUINIM: Following the attacks on churches and hotels in Sri Lanka, which left over 300 people dead, Goa government put the state on high alert. Two-wheeler-borne armed police are patrolling the beaches and have intensified vigils around hotels in Salcete.
One unit is assigned to cover the beach stretch between Colva and Majorda, while another takes care of the Varca-Cavelossim stretch. Personnel on two-wheelers have also been deployed along the Canacona coast.
The patrolling unit will check hotels and persons moving suspiciously would be questioned and checked.

Colva PI Rahul Parab said this is a deterrence measure to instil fear into anti-social elements and also to elevate the trust of the general public and make them feel safe.
Canacona PI Sudesh Narvekar told TOI that hotel managements have been served advisories directing them to adhere to strict security checks at their locations.
