TIRUCHI: Three persons including a woman were sentenced to life term for beheading a woman in the city in December 2013. The headless body of the victim identified later as Sasikala of Suthanthirapuram in Tirumayam taluk in Pudukottai district was found in a water body near the Fort station railway quarters.
During investigation, the Thillai Nagar police established the identity of the victim. It came to light during investigation that Sasikala and Saravanan were in love with each other. As Sasikala compelled Saravanan to marry her, the latter hatched a plot to eliminate her.
Saravanan along with his associate R. Suresh and a married woman by name P. Sathya jointly conspired to murder Sasikala belonging to another community. The trio murdered Sasikala robbed her jewels and dumped the beheaded body in a water body and threw the head in the Uyyakondan river, a police press release said.
A case under various IPC sections including 302 (murder) was registered against the trio who were arrested. The I Additional District Judge (PCR) sentenced Saravanan and Suresh to undergo double life imprisonment under two sections. However, the sentences would run concurrently. Sathya was convicted and sentenced to undergo life term in the same case, the release added.
