DIBRUGARH: Unidentified gunman fired at the residence of a local leader from Margherita in
Tinsukia district on Wednesday.
Pulakesh Mahanta is the general secretary of
BJP's Margherita unit. Around 2.30am, four shots were fired at his house in Lajum village. Two bullets hit a car parked inside the premises of his house, but Mahanta escaped unhurt.
"I was sleeping when I woke up to the sound of two ear-shattering explosions. It was like firecrackers going off. After a couple of seconds, there were two more loud sounds. I came down to
enquire and saw two bullet holes in my car. I have no idea who is behind the attack," Mahanta, who is also a contractor with the public works department, said.
Later in the day, he filed an FIR at Margherita police station and police are investigating the incident.
The car has been taken to the police station for forensic examination. The police are searching for the spent cartridges used in the attack.
