Canara Bank fire guts loan documents
Noida: A fire broke out in the record room of the Sector 6 branch of Canara Bank on Tuesday morning. At least four fire tenders reached the spot around 11.30am and the employees were evacuated.
While the cause of the fire was not immediately clear, the fire department later attributed it to a short circuit in the UPS room of the bank.

Fire safety officer I Kuldeep Kumar told TOI that they arrived in the area within minutes of getting the call, but it took them substantial time to negotiate the narrow lanes leading to the bank. “It took time to enter the area as the roads are narrow in the sector. The windows of the building were closed. So, a lot of smoke had filled the rooms. But we were able to extinguish the fire in about one hour and fifteen minutes,” Kumar said.

At least two fire extinguishers kept near the record room on the first floor of the bank apparently exploded due to the high temperatures of the flames.

While the fire started from the UPS room, it soon spread to the record room where old records of different transactions and loans, etc were kept.

A lot of the old records were destroyed due to the fire that continued till 1.30pm, bank officials said.
