Decomposed bodies of an unidentified young couple, aged around 20-25 years, were found floating in the Gomti near Indira dam in Gosainganj area here on Tuesday morning.

The legs and hands of both the bodies were tied together, hinting towards foul play, said locals. They suspected that the couple was murdered and later their bodies were dumped after being tied together.

Vijay Singh, inspector of Gosaiganj police station, said murder could be ascertained after the post-mortem examination. Higher authorities had been urged to have the post-mortem of the bodies conducted by a panel of doctors, he said.

Initial probe suggested that the river flow had brought the bodies near Indira dam from somewhere else. A group of people grazing cattle near the dam spotted the bodies and alerted other villagers who in turn informed the police control room, added Singh.

The bodies were fished out with help of local divers and sent to the mortuary for the identification process.

The inspector said the bodies were at least 10 days old. All police stations across the state capital had been alerted about the recovery of two bodies so that they could be identified.

LABOURER FOUND DEAD

A 24-year-old construction labourer, Janaki Prasad alias Pintu, was found dead on the roof top of an under-construction building on Lucknow-Faizabad road in Chinhat area here on Tuesday morning.

Police said he, along with his younger brother Nand Kishore, were working at the site for many months.

According to police, Nand Kishore said he and his brother went to sleep after having dinner around 9 am on Monday. But Janaki Prasad was found unconscious when Nand Kishore woke up on Tuesday morning. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, added cops. The police said the body had been sent for a post-mortem examination.
