At Chowara, voting halted for some time following complaint that vote was credited erroneously

In Pattom, a police case was registered against a voter who was unable to prove his claim that the VVPAT had credited his vote to another candidate.

The case was registered against Ebin Babu of Plamoodu, Pattom, after a test vote reportedly proved his claim to be false, the Medical College police said.

He was later released.

Women’s charge

Meanwhile, at Chowara, polling was temporarily halted at Booth No: 151 after a voter complained that her vote was erroneously credited to the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate although she had voted for the Congress candidate.

Reportedly, the incident took place after 76 votes had been cast in this booth.

A technical error in the EVM had given rise to the complaint,

Collector’s clarification

District Collector K. Vasuki said via a Facebook message.

However, the allegation that votes were being cast for a particular party alone when the button is pressed is “technically and technologically impossible,” the District Collector said in her Facebook message.

The machine had developed an error after 76 votes were cast.

It was replaced and polling restarted, Ms. Vasuki said.
