Ludhiana: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA-1) arrested two Amritsar men on the charge of drug peddling after 100 grams of heroin was recovered from their possession in city on Monday evening.
Sandeep Singh, 28, and Naresh Kumar, 33, residents of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar, Amritsar, had come to the city by train to sell the drug to their customers here.
CIA-1 assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Boota Singh said, “On a tip-off, a checkpoint was set up at Raikhi Cinema chowk, near railway station. During checking, 100gm heroin, which is worth Rs50 lakh in international market, was recovered from the possession of Sandeep and Naresh.”
Division 1 police station sub-inspector Daleep Singh said, “Sandeep and Naresh are friends and work with a caterer in Amritsar. They started peddling drugs eight months ago to make a quick buck.”
The two would procure drugs from Amritsar-based smugglers. “They claimed they never met the smugglers and struck the deals on phone. The duo would themselves deliver the contraband after taking orders from their customers on phone. They are not addicts and have been arrested for the first time.”
The two were produced before a court on Tuesday that sent them to judicial custody.
