BENGALURU: Potholed and mud strewn all around, the two-km stretch connecting Somasundara Palya to Harlur has become a nightmare for residents of HSR Layout Sector II.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has turned a deaf ear to the complaints of residents, who say with heavy vehicles playing frequently on the road, the condition is only worsening.
“Several online complaints have been filed in the past two years. After a few days, the authorities close them claiming the issue has been resolved. But the truth is that they never pay heed to our problems,” said Maithreyi Nadapana, a resident.
Mallikarjuna AS, a resident, said the BBMP had earlier dug up the roads to install water pipes to upgrade Cauvery water supply lines and sewerage network. “Around 30 rainwater harvesting pits have been dug and they have been filled with mud. During rain, the road becomes slushy, drawing stray pigs,” said Mallikarjuna, also the secretary of the Reliable Residency Owners’ Association. Residents of the Reliable Residency are the most affected by the pathetic state of the road.
“The roads were slightly better but the major problem then was lack of proper drainage pipelines. The BBMP dug the roads but failed to repair them after that,” Vishwanath Muppuri, a resident, said.
Satish M, a resident, said during monsoon, the entire stretch becomes slushy and accident-prone. “Many accidents have occured here,” he added.
HSR Layout corporator Gurumurthy Reddy said he is aware of the problem, but is helpless because of some issues in the court. “Most roads in this locality have been repaired. We’ll repair this stretch once the issues are resolved in the court,” he said.
Overflowing drain floods Shivajinagar street
Bengaluru: Residents of Meenakshi Koil Street in Shivajinagar are living amidst unbearable stench from an overflowing drain since last two weeks.
Manga, a resident, said last time the authorities cleaned the drain was more than a month ago. “The stench is so unbearable that we don’t feel like having food. Sewage is getting mixed with drinking water as well,” she added.
Geeta Kumar, the caretaker of the Meenakshi Amman Koil, said all four chambers of sewage line have been overflowing. “As the use of toilets in the morning hours is more, sewage on the street gets augment, affecting vehicle users as well. Drain water has resulted in unhygienic conditions in front of the temple. It has seeped into houses and shops in low-lying areas,” she added.

Senior citizen Maruthi Palini said illegal parking on either side of the street is another worry.
A BWSSB official said they’ll fix the problem by Wednesday.
