On the day of withdrawing nominations for the upcoming parliamentary polls, Delhi Congress chief Sheila Dikshit, on Wednesday, chaired a meeting with the party’s candidates to formulate individual campaign strategies.

Senior party leaders said the meeting also aimed at familiarising candidates with their constituencies, as some of the faces fielded by the Congress would contest from their respective seats for the first time.

The party has fielded three-time Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit from North East Delhi, Ajay Maken from New Delhi, Rajesh Lilothia from the reserved seat of North West, Arvinder Singh Lovely from East Delhi, professional boxer Vijender Singh from South Delhi, JP Agarwal from Chandni Chowk and Mahabal Mishra from West Delhi.

“Vijender Singh is new to politics, but there are other leaders who, though seasoned politicians, have not fought from these constituencies. This is a morale boosting session for the candidates,” a senior Congress leader said.

Dikshit, along with All India Congress Committee Delhi in-charge PC Chacko, will hold another meeting with candidates on Thursday, after which they will be formally introduced to the media.
