Congress president Rahul Gandhi has cancelled his road show in Mumbai and a rally in Nandurbar owing to time constraint and restrictions on logistics.

Rahul Gandhi’s Delhi office had almost finalised a road show of the leader in three constituencies in Mumbai. Beginning in North East constituency, where NCP’s Sanjay Patil is contesting, Gandhi was expected to end his road show in South Mumbai via South Central constituency on Thursday. However, the road show has been cancelled. “We were informed that he has campaign meetings elsewhere in the country for the remaining phases and hence he cancelled it,” said a party leader from Mumbai Congress.

The leader said the road show was most important as some of the party seats in the city are on a sticky wicket and in the wake of the Modi’s rally on Friday, Gandhi’s roadshow would have helped the candidates. The Mumbai Congress had also requested party’s general secretary Priyanka Gandhi for either a road show or interactive meeting in Mumbai.

The lack of facility of take off during night in Dhule or Nashik forced the party to cancel his Nandurbar public meeting on Friday.

“He is addressing a rally in Bhubaneshwar in Odisha on Friday morning and was expected to come to Nandurbar from Shirdi airport before going to Sinnar in Nashik. His take-off is scheduled from Shirdi Airport, but adjusting two rallies, by covering long distance in helicopter before sunset, was not possible. So we cancelled his Nandurbar rally,” said a Congress leader.
