Technical snag stops engine

Madurai–Rameswaram passenger train was detained at Mandapam Camp station following engine failure, and the train reached Rameswaram island after a delay of about three hours on Wednesday.

The train, which left Madurai at 6.30 a.m., reached Mandapam Camp at 9.30 a.m. when the engine developed a technical snag. As the pilots could not rectify the snag, an alternative engine was brought from Rameswaram and the train was moved to Mandapam station along with the faulty engine at 12 noon.

The faulty engine was discarded at Mandapam station, and the train reached Rameswaram island at 1.30 p.m., officials said. Following the development, Rameswaram–Madurai passenger train, which was to leave the island at 11.20 a.m., left at 2.10 p.m., they added.
