Ludhiana: A group of eight miscreants attacked two PCR cops with hockey sticks in Daba on Monday night.
In his police complaint, head constable Paramjit Singh said he along with head constable Raj Kumar was on patrol duty in Daba. Around 11pm, they saw three youths on a bike near a liquor vend. “We stopped the triple riders, but they started arguing and misbehaving with us,” Paramjit said.
After wrangling with cops, the trio escaped, leaving their bike behind. “But before fleeing, they took their bike key along. We were dragging the bike to Daba police station when the trio returned with five more men. They were armed with hockey sticks. All eight attacked us and escaped with the bike,” he added.
The police on Tuesday arrested two of the accused — Lakhvir Singh of Sahebzada Fateh Singh Nagar in Daba and his father Balwinder Singh. “Two other accused have been identified as Simranjit Singh and Rohit Sahota. A manhunt has been launched to arrest the remaining miscreants,” said Daba assistant sub-inspector Paramjit Singh.
A case has been registered under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 294 (obscene acts and songs), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the IPC against the eight.
