TRICHY: A mahila court in Trichy on Wednesday sentenced a 22-year-old youth to three years imprisonment for threatening a minor girl by posting her morphed photo on a social media platform. It also handed out another three years jail for assaulting the girl with intent to outrage her modesty.
The court ordered the convict, S Ajithkumar, to serve the two terms concurrently and also pay a fine of 5,000 failing which he should undergo six more months of imprisonment.
Special public prosecutor R Ventatesan said Ajithkumar, a construction worker, had proposed his love to the 17-year-old girl who was his neighbour.
Though the girl spurned his love, Ajithkumar continued to harass her.
Since the girl stood firm on her stand, he downloaded her picture from her WhatsApp profile and morphed it with his picture. Further, he posted the morphed photo on a social media site. This came to the notice of the girl’s elder brother.
When he confronted Ajithkumar for denigrating his sister, the latter abused and threatened him with dire consequences besides refusing to remove the picture.

Based on a complaint lodged by the girl, the Golden Rock all-woman police took up the investigation and arrested him on September 26 last year.
Though he was arrested he was released on bail during trial. Following the judgment, Ajithkumar was lodged in the Trichy Central Prison.
