Teen steals Rs 6.61 lakh gold at LTT, arrested

The Kurla government railway police (GRP) on Tuesday arrested a 17-year-old for allegedly stealing gold worth Rs 6.61 lakh from a commuter at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in Kurla. A second accused in the case is on the run.

According to the complainant Pramod Gandile, his 56-year-old father and his brother-in-law were carrying 209 grams of gold in secret pockets of their trousers on Monday.

“The two accused suspected the men were travelling with valuables after noticing a bulge in their pockets. They also saw that both of them kept checking the pockets’ contents,” said MA Inamdar, senior police inspector, Kurla GRP.

At 12.40pm, as the two were boarding the Kamayani Express, the accused took advantage of the crowd and slid their hands into their pockets and fled with the gold, said police. When the two noticed the gold was gone, they got off the train and alerted Gandile. After a complaint was registered, police scanned CCTV footage and identified the 17-year-old, as he is a history sheeter. He was arrested while targeting a man boarding the Faizabad Express, from LTT on Tuesday. Police have recovered gold worth Rs 4.78 lakh.
