The Bishop Stang High School Theatre Company will present the world’s longest running musical, “Les Misérables,” for the 2019 Spring Musical on April 25, 26, and 27 at 7 p.m.
This modern classic, based on Victor Hugo's novel, features one of the most memorable scores of all time.
The Story
In 19th century France, Jean Valjean is released from years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment.
He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a lifelong struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways.
Finally, during the Paris student uprising of 1832, Javert must confront his ideals after Valjean spares his life and saves that of the student revolutionary who has captured the heart of Valjean's adopted daughter.
The Music
The musical is full of powerful songs such as “On My Own,” “I Dreamed A Dream” and “One Day More.”
The Cast
Featured players include seniors Jacob Thompson, Samantha Landry, Kenneth Mackenzie V, and Henry Ucci; juniors Xavier Markey, Lily Saulnier, Myra Wong, Chikamadu Okafor, Caleb Hughes, and Phoenix Carreiro; sophomores Ellen Scarano, Julia Lavoie, and Austin Strawn; and freshman Aiden Guay and Nathaniel Wollenhaupt with stage manager Lindsey Leonard and assistant stage manager Alexis Cole.
This show also features area youth performers Aleah Braun of Westport Elementary School, Logan Cabral of Guiteras Elementary School and Mary Coady of St. Stanislaus School.
This show features an ensemble cast of an additional 50 members of Bishop Stang students.
The show is directed and musically directed by Melissa Murphy-Leite with assistance by Amanda Tarantelli.
Costume, prop and set design is by Jodie Braun and Erika Fernandes. The show is rated PG-13 as it has a mature themes. Ticket prices are $8 for children, students and seniors, and $12 for adults. Performances will be in the John C. O’Brien Gymnasium.
